Close Call

Today, in the midst of the tragedy I am extremely grateful. Not to downplay the terrorist attacks on London…my heart and prayers go out to all of Britain.

Yesterday afternoon, we had a near tragedy of our very own. In the Sacramento Valley, all the EMS personnel work closely with one another. One of our firefighters was involved in a
multiple vehicle accident while working a shift with the ambulance company. The entire department was on the call or at least on alert covering the stations. It was a pretty emotional evening for a lot of firefighters. Considering the situation, it is incredible there weren’t more losses. Our crews worked tirelessly and it was a huge relief to see them return to the station intact. The ambulance driver will also recover fully, and has already made progress. Our prayers are with her and all the other victims.

It’s always a terrifying time when one of “your own” is involved in a call you respond to. I’ve seen more than many…not nearly as much as some…either way, I have learned to appreciate life and the little miracles that keep our EMS personnel safe. It’s indeed true that “God loves medics”.

Thanks to all of you who prayed last night when we didn’t have any reliable status reports.

By the way, today’s public service announcement: WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS!! They do make a difference.

***UPDATE*** More information has been released about the crash on Wednesday afternoon.
